CLAIRE RANSOM

Claire Ann Anderson Ransom, 70, wife of Robert Glenn Ransom, of Pelzer, died Nov. 28, 2007 at her home.

Born in Pittsburgh, PA, she was daughter of the late Carle Folke Anderson Sr. and Sylvia Dobson Anderson. She was a homemaker and a member of Whitefield Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters, Elaine C. Skytta of Texas and Sylvia Plitt of South Carolina; and two granddaughters.

Funeral services were held Nov. 29 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed in Pittsburgh, PA.

Memorials may be made to the Whitefield Baptist Church Child Development Center, 207 Micthell Road, Belton, SC 29627.


WILLIAM ‘BILL’ YOUNG

William Richard “Bill” Young, 74, husband of Dinah Lambert Young, of Cleveland, died Nov. 27, 2007 at his home.

Born in the Brandon Community of Greenville County, he was a son of the late George W. “Will” Young and Iva Leone Barton Young of the Brandon Community. He was retired from Oakmont Nursing Center.

Surviving in addition to his wife are children, Gregory Young of Powdersville, Lisa Young Edwards of Piedmont; two granddaughters; sister, Odessa Young Summey of Columbus, NC; former wife, Margie Madden Young; stepsons, Timothy Newberry, Heath Newberry and Brian Newberry; and six grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Dec. 1 in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home of Pickens.

 Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.


BRODI BLYTHE

Brodi Alexander Blythe, infant son of Roger Lee and April Slevin Blythe, of Greenville, died Nov. 28, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by grandparents, Donna Stephens of Williamston, Pam and Bob Slevin of Williamston; great-grandparents, Richard and Charlotte Flax, and Delores Cox, all of Williamston.

He was predeceased by a grandfather, Robert blythe; and a step-grandfather, Earl Stephens.

Memorial services were held Dec. 2 at White Plains Baptist Church.


LEVIS LOCKE

Levis Locke, 89, husband of Mary Grace Clardy Locke, of Williamston, died Nov. 28, 2007 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in the Shady Grove Community of Anderson County, he was a son of the late Charlie Webb “C.W.” and Mamie Hawkins Locke.

He retired from Kendall Company and was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Williamston.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Grace Clardy Locke of the home; and brother, Rudolph Locke of Williamston.

Funeral services were held Dec. 1 at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Williamston. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.


BETTY DAVIS

WILLIAMSTON, Betty Sue Davis, 75, of Connie’s Residential Care, formerly of Williamston, died Saturday, November 24, 2007 at AnMed Medical Center.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Oscar and Ruby Dean Davis. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Surviving are a brother, Gary Davis of Williamston; two grandchildren, Joshua Fleming of Anderson and Jason Fleming of Pelzer; and a great-granddaughter, Brooke Fleming.

She was predeceased by a son, Jack Fleming and four brothers, Boyd Lee Davis, Monroe D. Davis, Johnny E. Davis and Thomas E. Davis.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Nov. 27 at Gray Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Richard Burton officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date.

The family received friends Nov. 27 prior to services.


JOSH SULLIVAN

Joshua “Josh” Ray Sullivan, 25, of Belton, died November 26, 2007.

Born in Greenville, he was the son of Ray Earl and Belinda Nave Sullivan of Belton.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by daughter, Cameron Nichole Sullivan of Honea Path; sister, Melissa Gayle Sullivan of Williamston; and grandparents, Mattie Lee Sullivan of Fountain Inn and Dizzy Dean Nave, Sr. of Mauldin.

Memorial services were held Dec. 4 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

ROGER MORRIS

Roger Morris, 62, of Piedmont, died Nov. 29, 2007 at his home.

Born in Anderson County, a son of the late Pauline Wilson Morris, he was formerly a diesel mechanic and a member of Mountain Springs Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army.

Surviving are his wife, Linda Foster Morris of the home; three sons, Chris Morris and Allen Morris, both of Piedmont, and Joe Morris of Myrtle Beach; a daughter, Michelle Morris of the home; a brother, Cliff Morris of Dacusville; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Dec. 1 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, Easley. Burial followed in Flat Rock  Baptist Church Cemetery in Liberty.

KENNETH D. SMITH, SR.

Kenneth David Smith, Sr., 57, of Taylors, died Nov. 28, 2007 at his home.

A native of Anderson County, son of the late James Randolph and Vera Woods Smith, he was employed by General Electric Turbine and a member of Unity Church of Greenville.

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Till-Smith of the home; son, Ken Smith, Jr. of Easley; daughter, Vera Smith of Easley; step-daughter, Christa Till-Caperton; adopted daughters, Renee Preston and Amy Parcher, all of Anderson; two brothers, Jim Smith of Pelzer and Gary Smith of Donalds; two sisters, Gail Smith and Lisa Wood, both of Pelzer; and nine grandchildren.

Memorial servies will be held 11 a.m. December 8 at Unity Church of Greenville.

RUSHTON OWENS, JR.

Rushton Owens, Jr. 37, of Williamston, died Nov. 30, 2007.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Unity Mortuary of Williamston.

The family is at the home of his Uncle and Aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Terry and Francis Donald of Pelzer.

Butler Reece Elrod, 76, of Piedmont, husband of Melbree Chambers Elrod, died Nov. 29, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital.

Born in Piedmont, he was a son of the late R. Lewis and Frances Merritt Elrod.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Rick Elrod of Forsyth, GA, Randy Elrod and Danny Elrod, both of Piedmont; one daughter, Nancy Sudduth of Liberty; three brothers, Robert Elrod of Louisiana, and Herbert and Frank Elrod, both of Piedmont; and seven grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Dec. 1 in Bethesda United Methodist Church Cemetery.

STEPHEN LEVY HUDGINS

Stephen Levy Hudgins, 46, husband of Patricia Holloway Hudgins, died Nov. 29, 2007.

Born in Louisville, KY, he was the son of the late Elizabeth Woolery Hudgins.

He served in the National Guard during Desert Storm.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Kristal Hudgins Mason of Piedmont and Katherine Hudgins Green of Mauldin; two grandchildren; a brother, Anthony Hudgins of Greenville; and a sister, Donna Glenn of Louisville, KY.

Funeral services were held Dec. 3 in the Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown Chapel. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens with military honors.


F. DEFOREST WHITT

Francis Deforest “Da” Whitt, 91, of Easley, died Dec. 1, 2007 at Palmetto Health Baptist.

Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late Hagood W. and Nannie Brown Whitt. He was a retired employee with both Libco Mill, Liberty and the U.S. Post Office of Easley. He was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church in Easley and a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II.

He is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Patterson of Six Mile; one sister, Velma Sweet of Easley; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Ethel Findley Whitt and his second wife, Sue Ellen Spearman Whitt.

Funeral services were held Dec. 4 at Rock Springs Baptist Church. Burial followed in Rock Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.


CARL PAINTER

Carl Painter, 73, died Nov. 10, 2007.

Born in Welland, Ontario, Canada, he was the son of the late Carl and Agnes Ferguson Painter.

He was a member of Second Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Nancy Saunders of Calgary, Alberta; three sons, David Painter of Toronto, Ontario, Grant Painter of Calgary, Alberta and John Painter of Piedmont.

A graveside service was held Dec. 4 at Mt. View Cemetery.

DENNIS PATTON

Dennis Tom Patton, Jr., 65, husband of Mary Tedder Patton, died Dec. 2, 2007.

Born in Greenville County, he was the son of the late Thomas Joseph Patton, Sr. and Minnie Idell Hughes Patton.

He retired with Milliken & Company and was a member of First Christian Fellowship Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife, is a daughter, Bonnie Omura of Redding, CA; a son, Johnny Adams of Pelzer; three sisters, Betty Houston of Sumter, Mary Ella Hartsell of Piedmont and Patty Johnson of Jacksonville, FL; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Graveside services were held Dec. 5 at Graceland Cemetery West.


MARTHA ANN HILL

Martha Ann Hill, 76, of Piedmont, died Dec. 1, 2007.

Born in Travelers Rest, she was a daughter of the late Jerry James Brown, Sr. and Wesley Looper Brown. She retired from the U.S. Air Force.

Surviving are daughters, Danita Ann Hill and Christina Hill Boston, both of Piedmont; sisters, Lydia B. Jones and Betty Choice, both of Greenville; brother, Jerry James Brown, Jr. of Piedmont; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Dec. 5 at Watkins, Garrett & Woods Mortuary. Burial followed in St. Luke UMC Cemetery in Travelers Rest.


STEVEN G. NEELY SR.

Steven Glenn Neely, Sr., 51, of Six Mile, died Dec. 2, 2007.

He was the son of the late Henry and Lois Spearman Neely and a member of Faith Fellowship Baptist Church. He was employed with Sealed Air Corporation in Simpsonville.

Surviving are his wife, Kimberly Hicks Neely; son, Steven G. Neely, Jr.; daughter, Stephanie Neely; one grandson; and sister, Janice Halman.

A life celebration was held Dec. 5 at Refuge Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

LOUISE TAYLOR ELGIN

Esther Louise Taylor Elgin, 82, wife of Leonard Calvert Elgin of Anderson, died Dec. 3, 2007 at her home.

Born in Anderson, she was a daughter of the late Leroy and Bessie Wright Taylor. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are her husband, Leonard Calvert Elgin of the home; daughters, Peggy Richards of Piedmont; Mary Nell Dean, Linda Hanks, Sharon Cross, Carolyn Todd, Betty Todd and Christy Hanley, all of Anderson; sisters, Mary Sallie Norris and Ruth Beebee, both of Anderson; several step-brothers and sisters; 27 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Dec. 5 at The McDougald Funeral Home. Interment followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.


BETTY BOYCE DUSENBURY

Betty Boyce Dusenbury died Dec. 1, 2007 at Palmetto Baptist Hospital.

She was a daughter of the  Arthur F. and Lois Massey Dusenbury of Williamston.

She  taught school in Charleston, Florence and Columbia and was a member of Virginia Wingard United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Joe S. Dusenbury; son, Joe S. Dusenbury, Jr. of Lexington; three grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. James B. Rogers of Charlotte, Mrs. Myron Smithwick of Raleigh, NC and Mrs. Gene Powell of Rock Hill.

Funeral services were held Dec. 5 at Virginia Wingard Methodist Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

THOMAS ANDERSON

Thomas Anderson, 79, died Nov. 30, 2007 in New Y ork City.

Born in Williamston, he was a son of Dee and Mary Anderson.

Surviving are a sister, Lillie M. Moore; daughters, Dana M. Anderson and Kim Y. Ninassi; son, Kerry T. Anderson; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A wake will be held at 10 a.m. Dec. 6. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. at Beulah BC, 125 W. 130th Street, NYC 10037. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.
