BARBARA W. SMITH

Barbara W. Smith, 65, of Greenville, died Oct. 12, 2007.

She was the daughter of the late James Grady and Clara M. Williams.

She was previously employed with Hamricks of Greenville and a member of Calvary First Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Maston A. Smith; two sons, Maston A. Jr. and Jason Kiley Smith, both of Greenville; seven sisters, Pat Kunz of Austin TX, Sharon Redding, Sheila Duncan, Marsha Williams, all of Greenville, Brenda Cooper, Gail Williams and Shannah Easter, all of Piedmont; three brothers, Keith Williams of Macon, GA, Garry and Chris Williams, both of Greenville and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Oct. 14 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest Chapel. Burial followed in Springwood Cemetery.


DALE OWENS

Theresa Dale Owens, 49, of Seneca, died Oct. 12, 2007 at the Cottingham Hospice House.


DANNY LEE JOHNSON

Danny Lee Johnson, 57, of Piedmont, died Oct. 12, 2007.

Born in Royston, GA, he was the son of Virginia Welborn Johnson and the late Lee Johnson.

He was retired from General Electric.

Surviving are his wife, Vicki Wofford Johnson; two sons, Evan and Adam Johnson; and three sisters, Betty Timms, Cynthia Johnson, Tanya Scoggins, all of Elberton, GA.

A memorial service was held Oct. 15 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest Chapel.

ANNIE BELL JOHNSON HAIR

Annie Bell Johnson Hair, 92, of Pelzer, widow of Loris Edward Hair, died Oct. 14, 2007 at her home.

Born in Horry County, she was the daughter of the late James William and Ella Caroline Crawford Johnson.

She was a homemaker and a member of Cool Springs Southern Methodist Church in Aynor.

Surviving are her daughters, Nena Barnhill of Pelzer and Candy Campbell of Cheraw; sons, Donald Hair of Goose Creek, Clarence Hair of Anderson, L.E. Hair of Greenville; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Oct. 16 at Cool Springs Southern Methodist Church in Aynor. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

MILT BURTON

John Milton “Milt” Burton, 74, husband of Betty Jo Holladay Burton, died Oct. 14, 2007 at AnMed Health.

Born in Richmond, VA, he was son of the late Isaac and Octavia Younce Burton. He was a Naval veteran of the Korean conflict, retired from Dixie Container Corporation and a member of Big Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of the home; daughter, Eva Lena West of Anderson; son, John Milton of Simpsonville and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Oct. 16 at Big Creek Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

FRANCES D. SIMPSON

Frances D. Simpson, 77, of Belton, died Oct. 12, 2007 at the AnMed Health Medical Center in Anderson.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Walter Rhodes and Lizzie Lewis Tippens. She was a homemaker and a member of Whitefield Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband of the home, she is survived by sons, Steven Simpson of Laurens and Timothy Simpson of Anderson; daughters, Vickie Phillips of Pelzer, Laura Daws of Hartwell, GA and Ledina Roberts of Pelzer; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorial services were held Oct. 14 in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.


MELVIN SLOAN

Melvin Sloan, 73, of Simpsonville, died Oct. 12, 2007 in the Westside Living Center in Greenville. A son of the late William Sloan and Eugena Cook Sloan, he was a member of the Reedy Fork Missionary Baptist Church in Simpsonville and a retired U.S. Air Force Veteran.

He is survived by one daughter, Tiffani Sloan of Piedmont; one sister, Virginia Sloan Robinson of the home; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Oct. 15 at the Reedy Fork Missionary Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.


WILHElMENIA FRANCIS

Wilhelmenia Francis of Williamston, widow of Samuel Francis, died Oct. 12, 2007 at Anderson Area Medical Center.

She is survived by a son, Travis Francis; and one granddaughter.

Funeral services were held Oct. 16 at New Prospect Baptist Church. Burial followed in Williamston Cemetery.


CATHY MASTERS

Catherine “Cathy” Gail Ford Masters, 60, of Belton, widow of Truman Pelham Masters, died Oct. 14, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Morgan and Virginia Watson Ford. She was a homemaker and a member of Cedar Shoals Baptist Church.

Surviving are sons, Randy Masters, Allen Waters, both of Belton; son, Bobby Whitten of Blue Ridge; daughter, Debbie Moore of the home; sister, Faye Putnam of Rocky Mount, NC; brother, Sammy Ford of Honea Path; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Oct. 17 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.


MARY S. YOUNGBLOOD

Mary Jane Simmons Youngblood, 90, widow of Lawrence Carl Youngblood, of Pickens, died Oct. 11, 2007 at Anderson Area Medical Center.

Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late Mason Simmons and Emma Jane Massingale. She was retired from Alice Manufacturing and a member of Pickens View Wesleyan Church.

Surviving are daughters, Patricia Y. Fortune of Pelzer, Martha Y. Smith of Lincolnton, NC, Mary Beth Ellison of Easley; son, John Carl Youngblood of Central; brothers, C.P. Simmons of Pickens, Andrew Mason Simmons Jr. of Memphis, TN; eight grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Oct. 12 at Pickens View Wesleyan Church. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

CAPT. GARY L. HOLCOMBE

Capt. Gary L. Holcombe, of Forest Park, GA, retired pilot, died Oct. 8, 2007.

He served in the U.S. Air Force and Navy.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn L. Holcombe; mother, Lois Holcombe, formerly of Williamston; sons, Scott Holcombe, Kevin Holcombe, Lance Holcombe and Travis Holcombe; daughters, Diane Holcombe and Dawn Smith; stepchildren, Teresa Hodges and Gregory Hunt; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and the mother of his children, Barbara Holcombe.

Funeral services were held Oct. 10 in the chapel of Horis A. Ward Parkway Chapel. Interment was Oct. 11 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Anderson.William T. Freeman

William T. Freeman, 81, of Marietta, died Oct. 14, 2007 at his home.

Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Esley and Nettie Cason Freeman.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and The Battle of Normandy.

He retired from the USDA and was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of the home, Marie Bell; two sons, Mark Freeman of Marietta and Ray Freeman of Liberty; one step-grandson; step great-grandson; two sisters, Clara Rushton of Saluda and Elizabeth Bowers of Six Mile; and two brothers, James Freeman of Easley and Curtis Freeman of Piedmont.

Funeral services were held Oct. 17 at Shiloh Baptist Church. Burial followed in Grand View Memorial Gardens.

WILLIAM FREDERICK ALBRIGHT, SR.

William Frederick Albright, Sr., of Piedmont, died Oct. 8, 2007 at his home.

He was born in Patton, PA and served in the U.S. Army in Korea.

He retired from Sauer Danfoss in Easley and started his own consulting firm.

He is survived by his sons, William Frederick, Jr. of Easley, Randolph Joel of Piedmont, Matthew Thomas of Fairport Harbor, OH; fiancee, Anita Sabella of Titusville, FL; two grandchildren; and five step-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents, Leslie and Maria Dainty Albright.

Funeral services will be held Oct. 19 at 1 p.m. at New Image Outreach Church, Hwy. 135, Easley, SC. Friends will be received by family after the service at his home.

MARY F. WILLIAMS

Mary F. Williams, 88, of Williamston, died Oct. 15, 2007 at National Health Care Center in Laurens.

Arrangements are incomplete at this time. They will be announced by The Unity Mortuary of Williamston.


ROBERT “BOB” FRANKLIN

Robert “Bob” Nelson Franklin, 77, of Piedmont, widower of Jacqueline Ann Combel Franklin, died at his home on Oct. 15, 2007.

Born in Pontiac, MI, he was a son of the late Pearl Franklin. He retired from the U.S. Navy after 24 years of service. He also retired from the South Carolina Unemployment Office. He was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church.

Surviving are daughters, Rhonda Sue Edgeworth of Daphne, AL, Gwendoyn Marie Fern of Jacksonville, FL, Jody Ann Rogers of Piedmont; son, Robert Nelson Franklin, Jr., of Piedmont; sister, Alice Ann Laclave of MI; brother, Jack Franklin of MI; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The Rite of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. Oct. 18 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial will follow in Robinson Memorial Gardens.


GINNY McCLAIN

Edna Virginia “Ginny” Alewine McClain, 63, of Belton, died Oct. 9, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Charles Jordan and Doris Edna Waters Alewine. She retired from the Dayton Metropolitan Housing Authority in Dayton, OH and was a member of Community United Methodist Church in Dayton, OH.

She is survived by daughters, Teresa Ann McClain of Belton, Deborah Cain of Franklin, OH, Karen McBryde of Dayton, OH; sister, Maggie Childs of Pelzer; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Oct. 12 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.


LYNN SKELTON

August 14, 1946-October 10, 2007

PELZER - Ginny Lynn Pack Skelton, 61, of 286 Ballard Road, widow of Keith Hiott Skelton, died Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at Hospice of the Upstate.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of Helen West Pack and the late John T. Pack. She was formerly the owner and operator of Cuttin’ Loose Hair Salon and a member of Guthrie Grove Church of God.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Laura S. and Michael Wright, Tracy S. and Michael Froedge, all of Pelzer; son, Allen Skelton of Anderson; brothers and sisters-in-law, John R. and Janet Pack of Pelzer, Kerry M. and Lisa Pack of Powdersville; sister and brother-in-law, Revonda and Jon Lippert of Pelzer; grandchildren, Madison and Landon Wright, Chase and Ella Froedge, Cameron Skelton, and Morgan Shaw; and eight nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer, with the Rev. Donnie Bell, the Rev. Mitch Gambrell, and Mr. Kerry Pack officiating.

The family was at the home of Tracy and Michael Froedge, 286 Ballard Road, Pelzer, and received friends following the service Thursday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

KENNETH “DUKE” COOPER

Kenneth “Duke” Charles Cooper, 51, of Piedmont, died Oct. 10, 2007 at his home.

Born in Williamston, he was a son of Talmadge “Tal” Charles Cooper of Piedmont and the late Ada Bryson Cooper. He was an employee of Cooper-Jones Furniture in Piedmont and attended the Piedmont Church of God of Prophecy.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his step-mother, Ann Cooper of Piedmont; brother, Michael Moe Cooper of Piedmont; and sister, Rachele Hart of Pelzer.

Funeral services were held Oct. 12 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

KENNETH RAY RUSSELL

Kenneth Ray Russell, 60, of Greenville, died Oct. 8, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Knoxville, TN to the late Edward and Ruth Rose Russell.

He was a songwriter and musician, started the Kenny Russell Show Band, was a former club owner in Greenville and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

Surviving are his wife, Joyce B. Russell of Piedmont; two daughters, Robin Williams of Knoxville, TN and Nancy Dahling of Greenville; four sons, Kenneth Russell II of Knoxville, TN, Jimmy Moody of Greenville, John Russell of Atlanta, GA, and Jerry Lee Russell of Greenville; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Buddy Preston Russell of Knoxville, TN, Eddie Russell of Clearwater, FL; and a sister, Janice Russell of Knoxville, TN.

Funeral services were held Oct. 11 at the Westville Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at Graceland West Cemetery.


MARIE JONES

Carol Marie Jones, 44, of Abbeville, died Oct. 8, 2007 at her home.

Born in Dumfries, VA, she was a daughter of Betty A. Johnson of Williamston and the late Jack Edward Williamson.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by a son, Josh Hall of Abbeville; brothers, David Durham of Pelzer and Scott Johnson of Easley; sister, Jo Ellen Turner of Pelzer; and three grandchildren.

A graveside service was held Oct. 11 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.


JOYCE HUGHES YOUNG

Joyce Hughes Young, 69, of West Pelzer, died Oct, 8, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Turnipville, GA, she was the daughter of the late Ethel Murray. She retired from Upton’s and was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Piedmont.

Surviving are sons, Mickey Charles Hughes of Columbia, Jerry Lee Hughes of Spartanburg, Michael Eugene Hughes of the home; daughter, Brenda Lee Hembree-Keller of Woodruff; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Oct. 11 at Graceland Cemetery.
