RONNIE DOBSON, SR.

PIEDMONT - Ronald “Ronnie” Dean Dobson, Sr., husband of Dora Jean Hawthorne Dobson, of 234 Woodlawn Drive, died Monday, September 8, 2008, at his home.

Born in Laurens County, he was a son of the late Jessy Lee Dobson and the late Pearl Alice Greene Dobson Thacker. He was employed by J.P. Stevens, Dunean Plant, for 36 years and a member of Bessie Road Baptist Church in Piedmont.

In addition to his wife of 45 years, he is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald Dean, Jr., and Sandy Dobson, Walter Lee and Lea Ann Dobson, all of Piedmont; daughter, Nancy Jean Dobson Smith and her partner Carole Dorn of Greenwood; sisters, Betty Pursley of Modesto, CA, and Rachel Garrett of Greenville; grandchildren, Clay Smith and his wife Amanda, Ron Smith, Josh, Tori, and Eddie Dobson; and great-grandchildren, Dana, Daniel, and Hope Smith.

He was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters.

Visitation was held 1:30 - 3 p.m. Wednesday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Funeral services followed at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with the Revs. Robert Griswold, James Julian, and Raymond Pepper officiating. Burial followed in the Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery in Piedmont.

LYNNE DICKSON

PIEDMONT - Roye Lynne Cox Dickson, wife of William Matthew Dickson of 16 Prospect Street, died Monday, September 8, 2008, at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville.

Born in Williamston, she was a daughter of the late Roy Woodrow and Cornelia Grace Mitchell Cox. She was employed at the Piedmont Post Office, attended the First Baptist Church of Piedmont and the Worldwide Church of God.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by son and daughter-in-law, William David and Beth Dickson of Piedmont; brothers, Tim Cox of Piedmont and Alan Cox of Pelzer; sisters, Elaine Joshlin of Waynesville, NC, Laura Poole of Greenville, and Linda Parker of Pickens; and granddaughters, Susan Kaylynne Dickson and Cassidy Nicole Dickson.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Jerry Cox and David Cox; and a granddaughter, Alexandra Elizabeth Dickson.

Visitation was held 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

JO RIDDLE

Esther Jo Moore Riddle, 78, of Williamston, wife of William Riddle died Sept. 7, 2008 at her home.

Born in Johnstown, PA, she was a daughter of the late Homer W. and Helen Chapple Moore. She was owner/operator of Two Beauty Salons in Pennsylvania. She was a member of Union Grove United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband of the home; children, Lynda, Robert, Mary Alice, Rob, Jodi; step-children, Barry, Robert, Bruce; brother, Homer “Bill” Moore; sisters, Jayne and Bonnie; 16 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Funeral and committal services were held Sept. 10 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.


JOSEPH RHETT SMITH

Joseph Rhett Smith, 68, husband of Linda Alexander Smith, of Williamston, died Sept. 4, 2008 at AnMed Hospital.

He was born in Cottageville, son of Mendel L. and Majorie E. Perry Smith.

Surviving are two daughters, Karen Bennett of Columbia and Kelly Lesley of Greenville; one stepson, Dale Lee Bentley of Piedmont; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers; and two sisters.


DORIS VIRGINIA DAVIS

Doris Virginia Davis, 78, of Piedmont, died Sept. 4, 2008.

Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late John Gordon King and Ruth Sprouse King Fletcher.

She was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are her husband, Jack H. Davis Sr.; three children, Jack Howard Davis Jr., Diane Davis Clevenger and Joy Davis Flory; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Sept. 8 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. Burial followed in Graceland Cemetery, West.

HAZEL CRYMES

Hazel Willine Thrasher Davis Crymes, 85, formerly of Williamston, widow of Jas “Johnny” Clifford Crymes, died Sept. 7, 2008 at NHC Healthcare of Anderson.

Born in Hart County, GA, she was a daughter of the late Henry Grady and Nina Pearman Thrasher. She was twice married, first to the late Robert Davis, retired from the Kendall Company and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Williamston.

Surviving are daughter, Diane Davis of Charlotte, NC; son, Talmadge Davis of Williamston; brother, Rudolph Thrasher of Seneca; one grandson; and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside service was held Sept. 9 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Anderson.


WILLIAM PRESSLEY, SR.

William Mose Pressley, Sr., 63, of West Pelzer, husband of Claudia Elizabeth Pressley, died Sept. 6, 2008 at Heritage Health Care in Toccoa, GA.

Born in Spartanburg County, he was a son of the late Simmie and Nettie Elizabeth Fields Pressley. He was formerly employed by Wilson’s, Inc. and was a Baptist.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Mary Jayne Pressley of Williamston; sons, William Mose Pressley, Jr. of West Pelzer, Charles Pressley of Pelzer and Charles Pressley, Jr. of Piedmont; brothers, Jerry Eugene Pressley of Greenville, Leon Dorman Pressley of Pelzer, John Thomas Pressley and Bobby Wayne Pressley, both of Spartanburg; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.


JOHN ‘BEN’ ALLEN USAF RET.

John I. “Ben” Allen, 81, husband of Vera Smith Allen, of Piedmont, died Sept. 3, 2008 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Hartwell, GA, he was a son of the late William and Melissa Allen. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service, a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church, and was a retired U.S. Air Force veteran.

Surviving are his wife of the home; daughters, Vickie Arrowood of Piedmont, Charlene Miller of Simpsonville, Beverly Bunch of Easley; sister, Effie Gee of Anderson; brother, James Allen of Anderson; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sept. 6 at Rehoboth Baptist Church.


JOHN CLAYTON EATON

John Clayton “Clay” Eaton, 59, of Pelzer died Sept. 4, 2008 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Henry Cricket and Annie Ruth Dickson Eaton. He was a heavy machine operator.

Surviving are a daughter, Tonya Umland of Williamston; sons, Barry Eaton of Pelzer, Kenneth Cooper of Belton; brother, Jack Eaton of Belton; sister, Cathy Fisher of Belton; and four grandchildren.

No service is planned at this time. Gray Mortuary, Pelzer is in charge of arrangements.


THOMAS ‘TOM’ HENRY BURRIS

Thomas “Tom” Henry Burris, 75, of Williamston, died Sept. 7, 2008. Palmetto Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.


HELEN HESTER RAGSDALE

Helen Hester Ragsdale, wife of Franklin G. Ragsdale, died Sept. 8, 2008.

She attended New Life Baptist Church.

Surviving, in addition to her husband are daughter, Frankie Loukides of the home; two sons, Samuel P. Ragsdale of Piedmont and James A. Ragsdale of Easley; sister, Louise Schweiker of Port St. Joe, FL; brother, Donald Hester of Easley; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Upstate SC Chapter, 301 University Ridge, Suite 5000, Greenville, SC 29601.

Graveside service was held Sept. 10 at Woodlawn Memorial Park.


GRACE G. HOLDER

Grace Galloway Holder, 70, of Easley, died Sept. 8, 2008.

Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Doc and Eva Fortner Galloway, she was retired from Dayco.

Surviving are one son, Joe Hernandez of Anderson; three daughters, Sheila Hopkins, Cindy Boykin and Lisa Warren, all of Easley; two brothers, J.C. Galloway of Easley and Bill Galloway of Piedmont; one sister, Lois Guckert of Syracuse, NY; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held Sept. 10 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home, Downtown. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.


KATHLEEN SCHNEIDER

Kathleen Stewart Fowler Schneider, 65, of Greenville, died Sept. 9, 2008 at Pendleton Manor in Greenville.

Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late David Donald and Mary Alice Stewart Fowler. She was a retired teacher with the Baltimore City Schools and Howard County school system. She attended Westminster Presbyterian Church in Greenville.

Surviving are brothers David Arthur Fowler of Avondale Estates, GA, and Rev. J. Donald Fowler of Greenville.

The family is at the home and will receive friends 10-11 a.m. Friday at Fairview Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

PAULINE HOWE

Pauline Jenkins Howe, 87, of Liberty, died Sept. 8, 2008 at Regency Hospital in Greenville.

Born in Pleasant Plains, IL, she was the widow of Glenn H. Howe and a daughter of the late Artie Luray and Hazel Rhodes Jenkins. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are three daughters, Kathy Barber of Pelzer, Sandra Norris and Debbie Bloodworth, both of Liberty; son, Michael Howe of CA; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Sept. 12 in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Inurnment will follow at the Liberty Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

SHIRLEY JEAN HARRISON

Shirley Jean Peterson Harrison, ‘Mama T’, 60 of Taylors, wife of Christopher “Mike” Harrison, died Sept. 8, 2008 at Greenville Memorial Medical Center.

Born in Griffin, GA, she was a daughter of the late H.E. and Sara Francis Cothran Peterson.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Tammy Giacometti of Greenville; two sons, Jody Traylor of Greer and Steven Traylor of Taylors; one granddaughter; and a sister, Susan Galloway of Piedmont.

Memorial service will be held Sept. 12 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown.

DEWENA MARTUCCIO

Dewena Martuccio, 60, of West Union, died Sept. 8, 2008 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Pendleton, she was a daughter of the late Mallory and Dorothy Dyar Dillard. She was of the Baptist faith and retired from Schlumberger Industries.

In addition to her husband Michael, she is survived by a son, Mark Carter of Westminster; daughter, Carla Billingsley of Clayton, GA; two grandchildren; brother, Johnny Dillard of Walhalla; sisters, Linda LeCroy of West Union, Cherita Duncan of Williamston, Nancy Dillard of Westminster, and Michelle Blakely of Pendleton.

Funeral services will be held Sept. 11 at 11 a.m. at Ramsey Creek Preserve, Westminster.

Memorials may be made to the Ramsey Creek Preserve, www.memorialecosystems.com, in memory of Dewena for the placement of native flowers in the preserve at her grave.


JERALD ELLISON

Jerald Odell Ellison, 73, husband of Shelba Casey Ellison of Williamston, died Sept. 8, 2008 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Williamston, he was a son of the late Miles Richard and Della Breazeale Ellison. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Armstrong World Industries, Inc., was an employee of ACE Hardware and a member of Whitefield Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son Mike Ellison of Williamston; daughter, Rhonda Hughes of Simpsonville; and sister, Edith Whitlock of Williamston.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sept. 11 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial will follow in Whitefield Baptist Church Cemetery.


MAGDALENE DAVIS

Magdalene Burns Davis, 88 of Pelzer, widow of William “Bill” Davis, died Sept. 5, 2008 at her home.

Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Lula Davis Burns. She was a homemaker and a member of the Pelzer Church of God.

Surviving are son, Louis “Bill” Davis of Easley; daughters, Ann Beacham of Pelzer and Mary Galloway of Pickens; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren and sister, Margaret Schmidt.

Funeral services were held Sept. 8 at Pelzer Church of God. Burial followed in Pine Lawn Cemetery.
