Mary Bagwell Janssen Stelling, 75, of Williamston, died August 5, 2008 at Hospice of the Upstate.

Born in Greenville, she was a homemaker and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Pelzer.

Surviving are daughters, Donna Vaughn of the home, Karen Lozada of Puerto Rico; sons, Carl Janssen of Honea Path, Leon Stelling of Williamston; sisters, Doris Pitts of Ware Shoals, Betty Woodson, Edna Davis and Evelyn Stone, all of Pelzer; brothers, Arthur Bagwell and Eddie Bagwell, both of Anderson; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Aug. 8 at Gray Mortuary Chapel in Pelzer. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.


BONNIE WILEY

Bonnie Carroll Stark Wiley, 73, wife of George Lewis Wiley of Piedmont, died Aug. 4, 2008 at her home.

Funeral services were held Aug. 9 in the Greenville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel in Greenville.

MARIE SPENCE

PELZER - Marie McAlister Bagwell Spence, 90, of 9 Green Street, widow of Henry Spence, died Thursday, August 7, 2008 at her daughter’s home.

Born in Williamston, she was a daughter of the late Joe and Leila Hammond McAlister. She was twice married, first to the late Martin Bagwell and retired from the Kendall Company. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Pelzer and the Rebekah Sunday School Class.

She is survived by son, Charles William Bagwell of Pelzer; daughters, Martha Spence Wilson and Linda Spence Bryant, both of Pelzer; step-daughters, Dot Pitts and Betty Phillips, both of Piedmont; four grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; thirteen step-great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and there step-great-great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by step-daughter, Jeanette Allison; step-son, James H. Spence; grandsons, Timothy Charles Wilson and Richard Adam Bryant; and a great-great-granddaughter, Hailey Wilson.

Visitation was held 6-8 p.m. Friday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Funeral services were held Saturday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Bill Bryant and the Rev. Steven Stone officiating. Burial followed in the Big Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family is at the home of Martha Wilson, 3 Fuller Street, Pelzer.


ALBERT PAYNE

Albert Dean Payne, 69, of Pelzer, husband of Susan “Sue” Childress Payne, died August 10, 2008 at his home.

Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late David Columbus and Sally Mae Turner Payne. He was formerly employed with Collins and Aikman and a member of New Beginning Full Gospel Church.

Surviving are his wife of the home; daughters, Rebecca Evans of Anderson, Wanda Wright of Piedmont, Cindy Kale of High Point, NC; sons, Timothy Payne of Greenville County, Barry Payne of Piedmont; brother, Steve Payne of Greenville; sister, Audrey “Aileen” Murphy of Anderson; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Aug. 13 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed in White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery, Pelzer.


KAREN SMITH CAMPBELL

Karen Smith Campbell, 81, widow of R. Neal Campbell, died Aug. 10, 2008.

Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late Floyd H. and Olfria Langston Smith.

She was a homemaker and was a member of The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Piedmont.

Surviving are four daughters, Cheryl Whisnant of Raleigh, NC, Candace Wilson of Greenville, K. Patrice Barham of Greenville and Dawn Reese of Piedmont; three sons, Robert N. Campbell Jr. of Taylors, Russell S. Campbell of Carbondale, CO, and M. Heath Campbell of Bonneau; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Aug. 13 at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

ANNETTE ATKINS AIKEN

Annette Atkins Aiken, 57, wife of Dan Aiken of Easley, died Aug. 9, 2008.

Born in Pickens, she was a daughter of the late Oscar and Alice Ellenburg Atkins. She was a homemaker and a member of Blue Ridge View Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are three daughters, Pam Smith and Angie Spearman, both of Dacusville and Missy Krieger of Powdersville; two brothers, Clyde Atkins of Piedmont and Carl Atkins of Six Mile; three sisters, Alecia Bates of Easley, Avanell Roland and Alene Owens, both of Pickens; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Aug. 13 at Blue Ridge View Baptist Church. Burial followed in Blue Ridge View Baptist Church Cemetery.


PAULINE TAYLOR

Edna Pauline Mosley Taylor, 70, wife of William Bud Taylor, Jr. of Williamston, died Aug. 10, 2008 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd Nathan and Jennie Lee Hughes Mosley. She retired from Schrader Bridge Port in Altavista, VA and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pelzer.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, William Bud “Billy” Taylor, III of Evington, VA and Robert Charles Taylor of Powdersville; brothers, Bobby Gene Mosley of Townville, Jack Mosley of Rainbow City, AL and Joey Mosley, of Atlanta, GA; sisters, Mary Owens of Liberty and Bonnie Styles of Pickens; three grandchildren; one step-grandson; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Aug. 13 at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Sunset. Burial followed in the church cemetery.


JOHN WILLIAM MAHON

John William Mahon, 74, of Greenville, died August 5, 2008.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late John Conway and Annie Smith Mahon.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, retired machine operator for Albany International and a member of Providence Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Roxie Pruitt Mahon; three daughters, Diane Hindman of Ocilla, GA, Sissy Bishop of Greer and Kathy Burnett of Dacusville; sons, Mike Mahon of Piedmont and Billy Mahon of Greenville; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside service was held Aug. 11 at Graceland Cemetery West.


FRANCES ODOM

WILLIAMSTON - Frances Watson Wood Odom, 87, of 1404 Hammond Ave., passed away on August 11, 2008, at Rainey Hospice House.

Daughter of the late Benjamin and Elizabeth “Lizzy” Spearman Watson of Pelzer, she is survived by her husband, Gene Odom of the home; two sons and their wives, Walter and Cindy Wood, and Greg and Barb Wood of Greenville; a sister, Margaret Mahaffey Odom of Pelzer; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a husband, Walter Wood, Sr.; a daughter, Tina Marie Wood; a sister, Dorothy “Dot” Garrett; and three brothers, Truman, Gordon and Major Watson.

The family received friends at West Pelzer Baptist Church on Tuesday, August 12, 2008, at 1:30 p.m. followed by services at 3:00 p.m. Interment followed at Pine Lawn Cemetery, Pelzer.

The family will be at their respective homes.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Pelzer Baptist Church or Hospice of the Upstate.
