‘REGGIE’ CHASTEEN, SR.

Tyre Reginald “Reggie” Chasteen, Sr., 67, of Piedmont, husband of Peggy Ann Holbrooks Chasteen, died July 31, 2008 at his home.

Born in Piedmont, he was a son of the late James T. and Vessie Lee Galloway Chasteen. He was retired from Michelin Tire, attended Piedmont Church of God of Prophecy and a United States Marines Corp veteran.

Surviving are his wife of the home, sons, Tyre R. Chasteen, Jr. of Fairmount, GA, W. Russell Chasteen of Greenville, Kenneth Wayne Chasteen of the home; sisters, Carol Scott and Margie Allen, both of Piedmont; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Aug. 2 at Piedmont Church of God of Prophecy. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

‘DOUG’ AUSTIN

Brian Douglas “Doug” Austin, 44, of Piedmont, died July 31, 2008 at Regency Hospital.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of Nellie Ruth Cappell Austin and the late Douglas Franklin Austin. He was formerly employed with Form-A-Tool.

Surviving is his mother of Piedmont.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Gray Mortuary, Pelzer is in charge of arrangements.


LEVON HAMILTON

Levon Hamilton, 80, formerly of Pelzer, died August 1, 2008 at the Richard Campbell Veterans Nursing Home in Anderson.

He is survived by one son, Levon Reid of Detroit, MI; one daughter, Vonna Rose of Pelzer; one sister, Eunice Brokenberry of Frierson, LA; and one grandchild.

Funeral services were held Aug. 5 at the Beasley Funeral Home Chapel in Fountain Inn.


BENNY BURRELL

Benjamin Lee Burrell, 64, of Greenville, died August 2, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital.

Born in Greer, he was a son of the late Walter and Gaynell Burrell. He was retired from the City of Seneca as Director of Public Works and was a member of West Gantt Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Imogene Nunn Burrell of the home; daughter, Alice Owens of Piedmont; brother, Dan Burrell of Greer; sister, Dot Gosnell of Tryon, NC; three grandsons; two great-grandsons.

Funeral services were held Aug. 5 at Robinson Funeral Home in Easley. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

HAROLD E. ALLRED

Harold E. Allred, 76, of Duncan, died August 2, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital.

Born in Spartanburg County, he was a son of the late Roy and Linnie S. Allred. He was a member of Duncan First Baptist Church and retired from Sybron Chemical. He also served in the National Guard.

Surviving are his wife, JoAnn Johnson Allred of the home; daughter, Amy A. Renshaw of Acworth, GA; two brothers, Carl Allred of Greenville and John Allred of Williamston; sister, Vivian Loftis of Greenville; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held August 4 at Duncan First Baptist Church. Burial followed  in Wood Memorial Park.

HAROLD WAYNE McGEE

Harold Wayne McGee, 64, husband of Patsy Davis McGee of Belton, died August 3, 2008 at Hospice of the Upstate.

Born in Anderson County, he was the son of the late J.B. and Alene Browning McGee. He was employed with Cobbs Glen and was a member of the National Guard and Shady Grove Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are; daughter, Donna Stroud of Belton; sister, Judy McGee of Belton; brothers, Terry McGee of Anderson and David McGee of Pelzer; and three grandchildren.

Graveside service was held Aug. 4 at Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.


JOHN J. O’BRIEN

John Joseph O’Brien, 84, of Williamston, died July 31, 2008 at his home.

Born in Steubenville, Ohio, he was the son of the late John Andrew and Catherine Isabell Giffin O’Brien. He retired from the U.S. Army a veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He was an E.E.G. Technologist after his retirement from the service. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Paulette K.O’Brien of the home; four daughters, Jacqueline Roach of Southampton, NJ, Patricia Pavetto of Memphis, TN, Theresa Price of Ocean, NJ and Donna O’Brien of Mt. Laurel, NJ; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Aug. 5 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial followed in the M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery with full military honors.

ED PERRY

Sgt. First Class Edward Eugene Perry, US Army Retired, 91, of Williamston, husband of the late Jessie Elizabeth Clark Perry, died August 3, 2008 at Hospice of the Upstate.

Born in Harnett County, NC, he was a son of the late Charles and Vallie Perry. A veteran of World War II and Korea, he was retired from National Cabinet Lock of America and a member of Williamston Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are daughters, Linda Yvonne Perry and Laura Andrews of Williamston; sons, Cecil Wayne Perry of Anderson, David Perry of Williamston; brothers, J.C. Perry and Luther Perry of Sanford, NC; and sister, Elizabeth Rahn of Pisgah Forest, NC; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Aug. 5 at Williamston Presbyterian Church. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.


KATHY D. BROWNING

Kathy D. Browning, 50, of Anderson, died July 27, 2008.

Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of Floyd Aiken and Mary Katheryn Aiken. She was the wife of Gary Browning.

In addition to her husband and father, she is survived by step-mother, Katheryn P. Aiken; son Shaun Parham of Williamston; and two grandchildren; step-children, Traci, Heather, Gregg, Brandi and Scott Browning, of Clearwater, FL; brothers, Roger Aiken of Simpsonville and Ricky Aiken of Anderson; and grandmother, Lillian Parham of Clearwater, FL.

A private memorial service will be held by the family at a later date.

BRENDA MEDLIN

Brenda Medlin, 68, died July 31, 2008.

She was the daughter of the late Carl and Neattie Ouztes of Ware Place.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Medlin; three daughters, Debra Parks of Greenville, Candice Black of Easley and Pam Jeffers of Easley; two sons, Tim Locke of Easley and Kenneth Medlin of Peachland, NC; and two brothers, Jack Ouztes of Pelzer and Mickey Ouztes of Moonville.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Indian Trail, NC.

A memorial service was held Aug. 3 at First Baptist Church of Indian Trail, NC.


MARIE WHITMIRE

PELZER - Viola Marie McClain Whitmire, 67, of 181 Loftis Drive, died Monday, August 4, 2008 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Clinton, she was a daughter of the late William Jessie and Verdune Singleton McClain. She was a homemaker.

Surviving are son and wife, David McClain, Sr., and Debbie of Piedmont; daughter, Dianne Thackston and husband, Richard of Pelzer; two grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Wednesday at Bessie Road Baptist Church by Rev. Robert Griswold with visitation prior to services.

The family is at the home of her daughter, 167 Loftis Drive, Pelzer. 

Gray Mortuary, Pelzer is in charge of arrangements.


CHARLES W. BURNS

Charles W. Burns, 79 of Liberty, died Aug. 3 at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson. 

Born in Brevard, NC, he was a son of the late James Elzie and Ruth Jane Kilpatrick Burns. He served in the Army during the Korean War and was a carpenter with Burns Construction before retiring. He was a member of Cedar Hill Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Sarah Jane Townsend Burns of the home; six daughters, Brenda Joyce Ingram and Linda Doris Burns, both of Wasilla, Alaska, Florence Ruth Burns of Piedmont, Deborah Ann Scott of Haslet, Texas, Sarah Rebecca Armet of Liberty and Teresa Gail Burns of Anderson; two sons, Donald Waverly Burns of Barter Island, Alaska and Ernest Robert Burns of Los Angeles, CA; brother, James Edward Burns of Lake Butler, FL; 18 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. August 7 at Greenville Memorial Gardens. Liberty Mortuary is handling arrangements.


DANNY W. LANDRETH

Danny Whit Landreth, 62, husband of Kay Landreth of Anderson, died Aug. 4, 2008 at Regency Hospital in Greenville.

Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late Claude Whit Landreth and Doris Ellen Turner Landreth. He was a former manager with American General Insurance Company and was a member of the U.S. Army National Guard. He was a member of Living Water Church.

Surviving are his wife, Kay Landreth of the home; daughter, Shannon Dannelle Landreth Essary of Williamston; son, Chad Dylan Landreth of Anderson; stepdaughters, Renee Gilreath of Anderson, Candi Barnett of Vidalia, GA, Leah Winton of Anderson; stepson, Kent Clifton of Vidalia, GA; sister, Jean Michelitti of Overland Park, KS; and 16 grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Aug. 6 at Living Water Church in Anderson.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.


RICKY CHAPMAN

Ricky James Chapman, 39, of Norris, died Aug. 3, 2008. He was a son of Ronnie Chapman and Pauline Ross Gilstrap.

Surviving in addition to his parents are two daughters, Kayla and Kimberly Chapman, both of Easley; a son, Christopher Chapman of Easley; his wife, Helen Wallace Chapman; sister, Jodie Gilstrap Campbell of Williamston; brother, Brian Chapman of Belton; four stepbrothers; and two stepsisters.

The family is at the home of his mother, Pauline Gilstrap, 511 Robinson Bridge Road, Central, SC 29630.

Funeral services were held Aug. 6 at the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial followed at Liberty Memorial Gardens.
