EVELYN BREAZEALE HOLTZCLAW

Evelyn Breazeale Holtzclaw, 81, widow of the late Marshall Holtzclaw of Belton, died July 15, 2008 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Eunice Hammonds Breazeale. She was a homemaker and a member of Belton Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Surviving are son, Ronnie Holtzclaw of Belton; daughter, Diane Houston of Anderson; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held July 17 at Cedar Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Belton Pentecostal Music Department.


JAMES L. ‘SLICK’ REEVES

James L. “Slick” Reeves, 79, of Belton, husband of Betty Irby Reeves, died July 14, 2008.

Born in Oconee County, he was a son of the late Fred Reeves and Fronnie Williams Reeves. He was a member of Eastview Baptist Church, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Cox Funeral Home Family. He retired from Liberty Life.

Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are son, Greg Reeves of Anderson; daughter, Pam Anderson of Belton; one granddaughter; sisters, Genelle Strickland of Belton, Mary Elizabeth “Slab” Campbell of Belton, Bobbie Crawford of Anderson and Sybil Reeves of Elment, NY.

Funeral service was held July 17 at Eastview Baptist Church. Burial followed at Garden of Memories.

Memorials may be made to Eastview Baptist Church Projector Fund.


JOANNE N. SMITH HEBERT

Joanne N. Smith Hebert, 52, of Piedmont, wife of Jody L. Hebert, died July 9, 2008.

Born in Sanford, Maine, she was the daughter of the alte Byron M. “Red” Smith and Bernadette Lizotte Smith.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Jessica Bernadette Hebert and Jordan Lydia Hebert of Piedmont; four sisters, Patricia Ward of Newfield, Maine, Linda Stansfield and Janet Hobb of Sanford, Maine, and Diane Field of Springvale, Maine; one brother, William Smith of Old Orchard Beach, Maine.

Funeral mass was celebrated at St. Luke’s Catholic Church on July 17.

ANNIE HAYES

Annie Woodard Hayes, 93, widow of William Smith Hayes of Pelzer, died July 17, 2008 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Lenoir County, NC, she was daughter of the late Mary Collins and was retired from Piedmont Plush in Greenville.

She is survived by son, James “Jimmy” Hayes of the home.

Graveside services were held July 19 at Greenville Memorial Gardens.


‘PAT’ NUCKOLS

Patricia “Pat” Anne Elrod Lindley Nuckols, 66, of Piedmont, died July 16, 2008 at McCall Hospice House.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Hulet Cecil and Mary McNeely Elrod. She was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church and attended Erskine College.

Surviving are son, Stephen Keith Lindley of Gaffney, sister, Mary Jo King of Piedmont.

Memorial services were held July 20 at Gray Mortuary Chapel, Pelzer.

PAT BROWN

Patricia “Pat” Gail Coker Brown, 55, wife of William “Billy” E. Brown, of Pelzer, died July 17, 2008 at her home.

Born in Belton, she was a daughter of Elnora Rogers Coker and the late Milton Lee Coker. She was a former employee of the Presbyterian Home in Easley and a Methodist.

In addition to her husband of the home and mother of Williamston, she is survived by her sister, Sandra C. Owens of Liberty.

Funeral services were held July 20 in the Chapel of Gray Mortuary. Burial followed in Pine Lawn Cemetery.


FRANKIE HOPE

Franklin “Frankie” Van Hope, 47, of Belton, died July 16, 2008.

Born in Charlotte, NC, he was the son of Glennie Purser Hope of Belton and the late Louie Ralph Hope, Sr.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by daughter, Jessica Hope Owens; three grandchildren; and sister, Carolyn Stillwell.

Funeral services were held July 20 in the Chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.


VIRGINIA PAXTON

Virginia Erlee James Paxton, 84, formerly of Piedmont, widow of W. J. Paxton, died July 21, 2008 at Hospice of the Upstate.

Born in Piedmont, she was a daughter of the late John Frank and Emma Ross James. She retired from J.P. Stevens, Estes Plant, and was a member of Guthrie Grove Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith.

She is survived by children, Kathy Hood of Piedmont, Leon Paxton of Piedmont, Gloria Ausburn of Park Hall, MD, Debra Smith of Winston-Salem, NC; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Family members are at their respective homes and will receive friends 1-2 p.m. Thursday at Guthrie Grove Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith.

Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

ERNEST MELVIN BOWEN

Ernest Melvin Bowen, 86, of Williamston, husband of Elise Reid Terry Bowen, died July 18, 2008 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Clinton, he was the son of the late Mel and Winnie Shumake Bowen. He was retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas.

He attended Williamston Pentecostal Holiness Church and was a United States Marine Corps veteran of World War II.

He was twice married, first to the late Frances Smith Bowen.

Surviving are his wife, Elise Reid Terry Bowen of the home; son, Berry Bowen of Anderson; daughters, Sharon Worley of Anderson and Martha Bright of Florida; granddaughter, Tammy Bridges of Anderson who was reared in the home; step-sons, Marvin and Randy Terry of Iva; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two step-grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren; one brother, Amon Leon Bowen of Anderson; and three sisters, Lucille Duckett, Mildred Smith and Joann Merritt, all of Anderson.

Funeral services were held July 21 in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home. Burial followed at the Williamston City Cemetery.

DOROTHY TEASLEY

Dorothy Teasley, 71, died July 17, 2008 at McCall’s Hospice House.

Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late George R. and Lela Kennedy Brown.

Surviving are daughters, Cynthia Craig, Yvonne Jackson, Estell Pierce and Keisha Henderson, all of Greenville, and Josephine Beasley of Bridgeport, CT; sons, Keith Teasley, Chris Abrams and Warren Beasley, all of Greenville; sister, Rev. Lillie Mae Tooney of Greenville; brother, Randolph Brown of Mauldin; 27 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held July 22 at Shady Oak Baptist Church. Burial followed in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.


LT. COL. JAMES B. MATTISON

Lieutenant Colonel James Benson Mattison (Ret.), 77, widower of Dorothy Chaworth Mcllwain Mattison, of Belton, died July 21, 2008 at the home of his son in Greenville.

Col. Mattison was born to the late Vance Prestion and Everlee Herlong Mattison. He served in the U.S. Army and owned and operated Mattison Hardware Company in Belton. He also retired from the South Carolina Army National Guard.

He is survived by a son, J. Benson Mattison, Jr. of Greenville; and brother, Joe Franklin Mattison of Spartanburg.

Graveside services will be held July 24 in Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Belton.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.


PHYLLIS DARLENE BURNETT

Phyllis Darlene Freeman Burnett, 48, of Pelzer, wife of Timothy Dean Burnett, Sr., died July 16, 2008.

She was born in Easley and was formerly employed with H&R Block.

Surviving, in addition to her husband are a daughter, Deidra Danielle Burnett Green of Travelers Rest; two sons, Jeremy Derrick Burnett  of Pelzer and Timothy Dean Burnett, Jr. of Fair Play; five grandchildren; father and stepmother, Gene and Mary Elizabeth Freeman of Tylertown, MS; mother and stepfather, Sandra and Gene Steele of Greenville; two sisters, Rhonda Hubbard and Angela Lyons, both of Greenville; and a brother, Mark Freeman of Williamston.

Graveside service was held July 20 at Graceland Cemetery, West.

 


JAMES ALLEN

James Carlton Allen, 77,  of Piedmont, died July 21, 2008 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Piedmont, he was a son of the late Benjamin F. and Ethel Crawford Allen.

He is survived by his sister, Frances McDowell of Piedmont.

Graveside services were held July 23 at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
