Shuford Lollis, 83, of Honea Path, died July 17, 2007 at Spartanburg Hospital Restorative Care. He was born in Laurens County, a son of the late the Charlie and Naomi McKinney Lollis and was retired from Riegel Textile Corp. He was a member of Columbia Baptist Church. Surviving are one son, Brooks Lollis of Honea Path; one daughter, Carolyn L. Quayles of Greenville; three sisters, Elsie Thurston of Williamston, Louise Woods of Fountain Inn and Easter Page of Princeton; two grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held July 20 at Columbia Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Dunklin Bridge Fire Dept., Augusta Road, Honea Path, SC 29654.
James Oscar Fowler, of Anderson, died July 14, 2007 at Hospice of the Upstate. Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Bob and Maude Fowler. Surviving are daughter Kim Snyder of Westminster; son, Bobby Fowler; one grandson; sister, Ruth Bagwell of Williamston; and brothers, Howard Fowler of Belton, Wayne Fowler of Williamston. A private graveside service was held July 15 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Ruby Reece Gillespie, 74, of Liberty, wife of the late Loyd Gillespie, died July 21, 2007 at Palmetto Health Baptist in Easley. Born in Pickens County, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Zelfie Stancell Reece. She was retired from The Singer corporation and was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are five daughters, Connie Zeimet, Sheila Bryant, Robin Duncan and Tammy Dillashaw, all of Liberty, and Dean Simmons of Piedmont; two sons, Don Gillespie of Pickens and Roger Gillespie of Liberty; 15 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; five sisters, Lucille Elrod and Mattie Raines, both of Easley, Doris Mauldin of Liberty, Arvie Morton and Hazel Evett, both of Pickens; three brothers, E.R. Reece and Bud Reece, both of Liberty, and Earl Reece of Pickens. Funeral services were held July 24 in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home with burial in Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.
Elizabeth Lib Chapman Ross Whitfield, 96, formerly of Pelzer and widow of Walter William Whitfield, died July 21, 2007 at Magnolia Place of Greenville. Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late John Thomas and Anna Purdue Cooley Chapman. She was a member of Pelzer United Methodist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Mary Corrine Jarvis of Greenville, FL; four sons, James F. Chapman of Honea Path, Thomas L. Ross of Manteca, CA, Jesse Floyd Ross of Dewey Rose, GA, Randall L. Ross of Pelzer; two sisters, Stacy Giles of Pelzer, Cathryn Taylor of Williamston; 20 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and 28-great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held July 24 at Gray Mortuary Chapel. Burial followed in Pine Lawn Cemetery.
David Wayne King, II, of Piedmont, died July 19, 2007. Born in Pickens County, he was a son of David Wayne, Sr. and Julie Marie Brookshire King. In addition to his parents, he is survived by sisters, Shawna Marie Davis of Williamston, Jennifer Michelle Lane of Greenville; brother, Daniel Jack King of the home; grandmothers, Nancy Lee King of Piedmont and Mae Magdaline Brookshire of Greenville; great-grandmother, Dorothy Mae Hess of Jodie, WV.
