RICKEY GARRETT

Rickey Harold Garrett, 52, of Easley, formerly of Pelzer, died June 25, 2008.

Born in Williamston, he was the son of Billy Harold Garrett of Pelzer and Cora Hawthorne Roehm of Easley. He was formerly employed by G&W Builders and was a Baptist.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by step-mother, Linda H. Garrett of Pelzer; and one step-sister, Pam R. Humphrey.

Funeral services were held June 28 in the Chapel of Gray Mortuary. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

CLARENCE MAYFIELD

Clarence Vernon Mayfield, 76, husband of Dorothy “Dot” Thomas Mayfield, of West Pelzer, died July  9, 2008.

Born in Anderson, he was a son of the late John Thomas and Mamie Ward Mayfield. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict. He retired from Platt-Saco-Lowell. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Pelzer.

In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by sons, Mike Mayfield of Piercetown, Greg Mayfield of Belton; daughter, Becky Mayfield of the home; sister, Gladys Waters of Pelzer; and brother, the Rev. Joe Mayfield of Pelzer.

Funeral services were held July 12 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.


WILLIAM ‘DUB’ LOOPER

William Augustus “Dub” Looper, 84, husband of Margaret Chasteen Childress Looper, of Piedmont, died July 9, 2008 at the Richard Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.

Born in Anderson, he was a son of the late Steve Butler and Mable Inez Smith Looper. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, retired from Platt Saco Lowell, and was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Piedmont.

In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by daughter, Shelby L. Garrison of Piedmont; sons, Tommy Looper and William P. Looper, both of Piedmont; sister, Aleita “Bid” Reeves of Piedmont; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held July 12 at Southside Baptist Church in Piedmont. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Dorothy Cannon, 56, of Piedmont, died July 4, 2008 at her home.

Born in Anderson, she was a daughter of Calvin Cannon of Anderson and the late Eliza Mattison Cannon. 

Surviving, in addition to her father, are her daughter, Thea Moon of the home; sisters, Rose Wilson of Easley and Maude Brock of Greenville; and brother, Calvin Cannon, Jr. of Greenville.

Funeral service was held July 5 at Watkins, Garrett and Woods Mortuary. Burial followed in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.


JOHN LESTER ROSS, JR.

John Lester Ross, Jr., 81, widower of Betty Jean Bryant Ross, died July 9, 2008 at the AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Pelzer, he was the son of the late John Lester Ross, Sr. and Fannie Mae Jordan Ross. He was a member of Marshall Memorial United Methodist Church and retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas.

He is survived by two sons, Danny Ross of Anderson and John M. Ross of Anderson; special aunt, Sara Ross Akins of the home; five grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Ross Kelley of Anderson and Norma Jean “Boots” Ross Graham of Calhoun Falls.

Funeral service was held July 11 in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home. Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

SHELBY J. MEEKS

Shelby Jean Burdette Meeks, 68, wife of the late Thomas Edward Meeks of Anderson, died July 10, 2008 at her daughter’s home in Williamston.

Born in Oconee County, she was a daughter of the late Mary Lou Burdette Blalock. She was a homemaker and formerly employed with Ellenburg Nursing Home. She was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Temple.

Surviving are sons, Jerry Floyd Powell of Columbia, and Billy Guy Powell of Anderson; daughters, Glenda Marie Rollins of Anderson and Debra Jean Dean of Williamston; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held July 13, 2008 in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home. Interment followed in New Silverbrook Cemetery.


DERRELL HOLLAND

Grady Derrell Holland, 73, of Pelzer, husband of Jo Ann Rhodes Holland, died July 9, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital.

Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Jamie Andrew and Esther King Holland. He was vice-president of a local business he owned and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of the home, son, Christopher Derrell Holland of Pelzer; brothers, William Andrew Holland and James Howard Holland, both of Anderson; and one grandson.

Funeral services were held July 13 at New Hope Baptist Church. Burial followed in Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery.


CATHERINE KING

BELTON - Catherine Louise Brady King, 78, widow of Truman Leo King, of 1943 Holliday Dam Road, died Saturday, July 12, 2008, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Rallen Leslie Brady and Gaddis “Gad” Brady. She was retired from Swirl Manufacturing.

She is survived by her sons Mike King and his girlfriend Kelly of Belton;  Steve King and his wife Diane of Belton; sisters, Doris Childress and Elaine Shirley, both of Williamston, Peggy Mason of North Carolina; brother, Donald Brady of Williamston; grandchildren, Tracy Autry, Deana King, Kasey King; and great-grandchildren, Samantha Autry, Britney Autry, and David Dare.

She was predeceased by a son, Truman Leo King, Jr.; brothers, Wayne, Daniel, and Charles Brady, and a sister, Thelma Browning.

Funeral services were held 11 a.m. July15 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary with the Rev. Charles Fuller officiating. Burial followed in White Plains Baptist Church cemetery.

The family is at the home and received friends Monday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.


ELAINE EDNEY

Martha Elaine Crane Edney, 60, wife of Ray Edney, of West Pelzer, died July 14, 2008 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Pelzer, she was the daughter of Inez Davis Crane and the late Lewis Clyde Crane. She was a homemaker and a member of the Pelzer Church of God.

In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by daughter, Pamela Edney of Walhalla; son, Dennis Rector of Piercetown; brother, Paul Crane of Pelzer; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held July 16 at the Pelzer Church of God. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.


DEBORAH R. DICKARD

Deborah “Debbie” Rochester Dickard, 53, wife of Reverend Bob Dickard of Six Mile, died July 13, 2008.

A native of Seneca, she was the daughter of the late William Henry and Mary Irene Tollison McCurry Rochester. She was a homemaker and a member of Hopewell Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by son, Jason Dickard of Williamston; daughter, Mandy Wimpey of Williamston; brothers, Cecil McCurry of West Union and Eugene Rochester of Seneca; sister, Chris Oliver of Walhalla; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held July 16 at Hopewell Baptist Church. Burial followed in Oconee Memorial Park.


LOTTIE LORAINE TILLEMA

Lottie Lorraine Tillema, 93, of Piedmont, died July 13, 2008.

She was a daughter of the late Henry and Emma Dolch Ferrell, and the widow of the late Henry Tillema.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a member of Edgewood Church of Christ.

Surviving are two daughters, Darlene and Rhonda Tillema, both of the home.

Funeral service was held July 15 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Contributions may be made to her children at 106 Ells Country Estates, Piedmont.
