MINNIE WINKLER SIMMONS

Graveside services for Minnie Winkler Simmons, 87, were held May 16, 2008 at Cedar Grove Methodist Church Cemetery in Townville.


MARY EPPS

Mary Ellen Kay Epps, 74, of Anderson, widow of william Henry Epps, died May 15, 2008 at her home.

Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Marvin, Sr. and Sarah Darby Kay.

She was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Abbeville.

Surviving are daughters, Wanda E. Hicks of Anderson, Annette E. Grigg of Apollo Beach, FL; son, Brian Epps of Abbeville; three brothers, Marvin Kay, Jr., Grady Kay, Dan Kay, all of Williamston; sister, Lois Chapman of Abbeville; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held May 17 at Gray Mortuary Chapel in Pelzer. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.


DAVID MEDLIN

James David Medlin, 55, of Piedmont, wife of Doris Annette Webb Medlin, died May 14, 2008 at his home.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of Arthur Medlin and the late Lily May Hall Jordan. He was of the Church of God of Prophecy faith.

Surviving are his wife of the home; daughter, April Marie Medlin of the home; father of Williamston; three sisters, Susan Zes of Metler, GA, Dene Carlisle of Simpsonville, Judy Hester of Taylors; brother, Thomas Jordan of Pickens.

He was predeceased by his step-father, Harold Jordan.

Funeral services were held May 17 at Gray Mortuary Chapel, Pelzer. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.


DORIS ROBERTS

Doris Ware Roberts, 78, of Williamston, widow of Charles Marion Roberts, died May 16, 2008 at her home.

Born in Greer, she was a daughter of the late John Carl, Sr. and Nora McCrary Ware. She retired from Milliken’s Cushman Plant and was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Surviving are a brother, Carl Ware of Pelzer; and sister, Sara Ware Drennon of West Pelzer.

Funeral services were held May 17 at Gray Mortuary Chapel, Pelzer. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson.

FRANK ADAMS

Franklin “Frank” Kermit Adams, 35, of Pelzer, died May 16, 2008.

Born in Anderson, he was a son of Debra Jean Duncan and the late William David Adams.

Surviving are his mother of Pelzer; brother, William “Billy” David Adams, Jr. of Pelzer; sister, Amerise Brojet Lambrant of Anderson.

Memorials services were held May 19 at Guthrie Grove Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith.


GLADYS C. HOWARD

Gladys Crisp Howard, 85, of Greenville, died May 16, 2008 at McCall Hospice House.

She was born in Graham County, NC, a daughter of the late Posey E. and Flora Markham Crisp.

She was a dietitian at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville and  a member of Tremont Church of God.

Surviving are her son, Danny Howard of Easley; daughters, Phyllis Ruffman of Taylors and Diane Alexander of Greenville; a brother, Dean Crisp of Greenville; sisters, Myrtle Loftis and Naomi White, both of Greenville and Shelby Hanna of Piedmont; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Dr. Walter Lee Howard.

Funeral services were held May 19 at Tremont Church of God. Burial followed in Robinson Memorial Gardens, Easley.

MAE KING BRYSON

Mae King Bryson, of Clinton,  died May 16, 2008.

Born in Spartanburg, she was the daughter of the late Vernon T. and Belle B. King of Lyman.

She was retired from Whitten Center.

Surviving are her husband, James D. Bryson; a daughter, Susan B. Potts of Clinton; and a son, David Bryson of Piedmont; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four brothers, Paul King of Lyman, Talmadge King of Spartanburg, Marshall King of Lyman, and Rev. Harold King of Inman.

Funeral services were held May 18 at Davidson Street Baptist Church. Burial followed in Pinelawn Memory Gardens.

MILES C. GREGORY

Miles Carter Gregory, 84, of Piedmont, died May 15, 2008.

Born in Alabama, he was the son of Joseph A. and Lela Mae Cambron Gregory.

He was retired from the U.S. Air Force and served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was also retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a member of Welcome Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Gregory; son, Norman S. Garrison of Easley; two daughters, Margie B. Holmes of Easley, Kathy G. Elrod of Piedmont; two step-daughters, Donna Farrow of Greenville, Kelly Irvin of Easley; stepson, Mac Farrow of Easley; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Ruth Catherine Simmons Gregory.

Funeral service was held May 18, 2008 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens, Piedmont.


CYNTHIA ‘C.C.’ RAY

Cynthia “C.C.” Lee Center Ray, 35, of Easley, wife of Richard “Ricky” Todd Ray, died May 18, 2008 at Palmetto Health Baptist Easley.

Born in Piedmont, she was a daughter of Lewis “Pete” Ralph Center and Sammie Lee Eaton Center. She was formerly employed with Joy Real Estate as a realtor and formerly attended Oak Grove Baptist Church.

Surviving are her father of West Pelzer, her mother of Greenville; husband of the home; two sons, Justin Jackson and Chaise Jackson, both of the home; daughter, Aubrianna Childress of Pelzer; step-son, Brandon Ray of Greer; great-grandfather, Willis K. Center of Piedmont; brother, Trent Center of Iva; half-brother, Dean Childress of Pelzer; and half-sister, Twyla Jepson of Liberty.

Memorial service was held Wednesday at Gray Mortuary in Pelzer.


WILLIAM CHARLES ‘BILLY’ BEEKS

William Charles ‘Billy’ Beeks, 79, of Piedmont, died May 18, 2008.

Born in Greenville, he was the widower of Inez Tinsley Beeks and son of the late Samuel Edwin and Lily Mae McConnell Beeks.

He retired from Reynolds, Smith and Hills in 1994.  He was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by three daughters, Connie Robu of Mauldin, Cathy Loso of Simpsonville and Donna Dawson of Piedmont; a son, Michael Beeks of Greenville; ten grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; brother, John Robert “Jack” Beeks and a sister, Marion Dyer, both of Greenville.

Funeral service was held May 21 at Bessie Road Baptist Church.

JAMES ARTHUR DAVIS, JR.

James Arthur Davis, Jr., 86, of Easley, died May 19, 2008.

Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late James Arthur Davis, Sr. and Marie Alverson Davis.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Jones Avenue Baptist Church and served as the Minister of Music for a number of area churches including Piedmont Heights in Piedmont.

Surviving are his wife, Lucille Reece Davis of the home; daughter, Cathy Bell of Greer; son, Jimmy A. Davis of Greenville; two grandchildren; and three sisters, Vera Gilbert of Greenville, Ruth Wilson of Belton, and Marion Sims of White Plains.

Funeral service was held May 21 at Jones Avenue Baptist Church in Easley. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Anderson.

WAYNE MARDIS

R.D. “Wayne” Mardis, 66, husband of Sandra Knox Mardis of Willliamston, died May 20, 2008 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late James Thomas and Marion Taylor Mardis Davis. He was employed by Gen III, Inc. in Fountain Inn and a member of Whitefield Baptist Church in Belton.

In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by daughters, Wendy Mardis Heatherly and Christi Mardis Rankin, both of Williamston; brothers, Bob Mardis of Gaffney and Steve Mardis of Pelzer; sister, Peggy Thompson of Pelzer; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

The family is at the home and will receive friends 2-3 p.m. Thursday prior to the service at the funeral home.


ANDREA ALBERTSON

Andrea Leigh Bromeling Albertson, 23, wife of Eric Jon Albertson of Anderson, died May 9, 2008.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of Robert Bromeling and Beth Fisher Moore. She was of the Baptist Faith.

Surviving are her husband of Parris Island; daughter, Madison Elizabeth Bromeling of Anderson; and a sister, Erica Lynn Bromeling of Columbia.

Funeral services were held May 12 at Honea Path First Baptist Church. Burial followed in the Garden of Memories.

AIMEE WIMPEY

Aimee Lynn Bunch Wimpey, 32, wife of Josh Wimpey, died May 18, 2008 at Duke University Hospital.

Born in Beckley, WV, she was the daughter of Dwain R. Bunch and Vicky O’Neal Bunch.

She served as the chairperson for Relay for Life and was a member of Hillside Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband and parents are; two daughters, Lyndsie and Madison Wimpey; father-in-law, Ed Wimpey and his wife Sandy; and mother-in-law, Shirley Clark.

Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Hillside Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
