June 20, 1929-May 17, 2007 WILLIAMSTON - Margaret Burns Weaver McWherter, 77, wife of Eugene Earl McWherter, of 1016 Belton Highway, died Thursday, May 17, 2007 at Hospice of the Upstate. Born in Laurens County, she was a daughter of the late William Bill and Tina Lesley Burns. She was twice married, first to the late Cecil Andrew Weaver, Sr., a homemaker, a member of Williamston Church of Christ and the DAV. In addition to her husband of the home, she is survived by daughters, Libby Noblitt and her husband Bud of Easley, Linda Gambrell and her husband Jay of West Pelzer, Karen Heatherly of Williamston, Kathy Labbe and her husband Pat of Anderson; son, Cecil A. Weaver, Jr. and his wife Shirley of Belton; step-daughter, Sheri Lynn Rivers of Griffin, GA; step-sons, Earl Eugene McWherter of Brunswick, GA, Jay Paul McWherter of Union; mother-in-law, Berniece McWherter of Orlando, FL; sister, Jesse Lee Sumeral of Laurens; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Bobbie Jean Word. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer with Minister Robert Martin and the Rev. Randall Smith officiating. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Laurens. The family is at the home and received friends Friday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Henry Charles Julian, 79, husband of Doris Garrett Julian, of the Moonville Community, died May 17, 2007 at his home. Born in Greenville County, he was the son of the late John Ephrian and Mattie Leslie Julian. He retired from the H. T. Hackney Company and was a member of the Church of God in Williamston. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Lou Julian of Moonville, Carol Ann Corbett of Taylors; one grandson; and two great-granddaughters. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Cryptside services were held May 19 at Greenville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Songa Bennett, 55, of Waterloo, died May 12, 2007. A daughter of Jannie Martin of Ware Shoals and the late John Irvin Martin, she was a member of Laurel Hill Baptist Church and a teachers aide with Laurens High School. She is survived by her husband, Clyde Bennett Jr., of the home; a son, Tyrone A. Bennett of the home; four daughters, Alicia Edwards of Williamston, Carolee Bennett of Waterloo, Veronica A. Bennett and Dianelle T. Bennett of the home; her mother; five brothers, Walter Martin, Kass D. Martin of Clinton, Benny Martin of Ware Shoals, Leroy Martin of Gray Court, and Michael Martin of Jacksonville, FL; four sisters, Lillie P. Anty of Hickory Tavern, Mae Bell Simpson of Waterloo, Betty A. Tate of Ware Shoals and Judy A. Gantrell of Greenville; four grandchildren, one reared in the home, Tashianna Bennett; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral service was held May 18 at Laurel Hill Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Silas Herbert Campbell, 90, of Anderson, died May 15, 2007. He was born in Anderson County to the late Preston W. and Hope Arnold Campbell. He was former owner/operator of the Esso Club in Clemson and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He is survived by seven children, Jerry Campbell and Mary Cline of Greenville, Kenny Campbell of Pickens, John Campbell of Roanoke, VA, Susan Payne of Williamston, Marion Campbell of Belton and Sarah Pan of Watkinsville, GA; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A celebration of his life was held May 18 at Seneca Baptist Church. Interment followed at Corinth Baptist Church in Seneca.
Faye M. Medlock, 68, of Greenville, died May 14, 2007. Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late John Morris and Eula Boswell Morris and wife of the late William Medlock. She retired from Fluor Daniel and was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are son, John Medlock of Greenville; two brothers, George M. Morris of Easley and Ernie Morris of Piedmont; and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held May 17 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. Burial followed in Princeton Baptist Church Cemetery.
Hubert Alvin Poole, 75, of Greenville, died May 14, 2007. Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late James Dean Poole and Lucille Donan Poole and husband of the late Derrolyn Dunwoody Poole. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and retired from Hubert A. Poole Manufacturing Jewelers as owner/operator. He was a member of Dunean United Methodist Church. Surviving are three sons, Andre Poole of Easley, Curtis Poole of Pelzer and Geoff Poole of Easley; three sisters, Mary Alice Brown of Lyman, Barbara Watts of Fort Mead, FL and Miriam Nicholson of Horsehoe, NC; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held May 18 at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Roy Gene Hicks, 66, husband of Lillian Smith Hicks of Belton, died May 17, 2007 at his home. Born in Anderson County he was the son of the late James Poke and Mildred Jeanette Ellison Hicks. He was a plumber and a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. Surviving in addition to his wife are; a son, Donnie Randal Smith of Belton; daughters, Lisa Kelly of Belton, Lori Cox and Beth Isom, both of Williamston; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; brother; Larry Hicks of Belton; sister, Joann Waters of Williamston. William Gary Talbert, Jr., 63, of Piedmont, died May 15, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Edgefield, he was a son of the late William Gary Talbert Sr. and Fannie Mae Gilchrist Talbert. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a retired Pentagon employee. Surviving are sons, William Gary III of Washington, DC, Marc Talbert and Michael Talbert, both of Maryland; sisters, Bishop Ethel M. Talbert-Spearman of Pelzer, Betty Jean Talbert Parks of Greenville, Marguerite Talbert Jackson of Taylors, Cassandra Talbert Carroll of Greenville and Jenette Talbert-Cureton of Greenville; brothers, Conrad L. Talbert of Piedmont, Alonzo A. Talbert of Greenville and Timothy Talbert and Stephen Talbert, both of Greenwood; and 11 grandchildren. Funeral service was held May 19 at Faith Cathedral. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
Evelyn P. Spearman, 84, of the Piercetown Community, died May 18, 2007 at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born in Anderson, she was the wife of the late J.V. Bink Spearman and a member of Beulah United Methodist Church. She is survived by her children, Jimmy Spearman of the home, Barbara Bishop of Anderson and Randall Spearman of Sandy Springs; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held May 20 at Beulah United Methodist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Martha Marie Guest Newton, 64, wife of Clarence Melvin Newton of Williamston, died May 18, 2007 at her daughters home. Born in Fulton County, GA, she was a daughter of the late Allen William and Annie Mae Stevens Guest. She was a homemaker. Surviving are her husband of the home; daughter, Sandy Dacus of the home; brother, Ray Guest of Columbus, GA; sister, Mary Parker of Stockbridge, GA and one granddaughter. Graveside services were held May 21 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Madge Horne Trotter, 82, resident of N.H.C. of Mauldin, formerly of Gray Court, died May 20, 2007 at N.H.C. of Mauldin. She was born to the late John Horne and the late Ida Gann Horne. She was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith. She was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold N. Trotter. Surviving are two sons, Kimball Trotter of Fountain Inn and Terry Trotter of Piedmont; daughters, Pamela Robinson of Simpsonville and Rebecca Johnson of Fountain Inn; brothers, Harold Horne and Dwight Horne of Chattanooga, TN; sisters, Jewel Woodward and Veretta Biddle of Chattanooga, TN; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held May 22 at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Laurens.
Ruby Galloway Fossett, 83, wife of James Griffith Fossett, of Piedmont, died May 20, 2007 at her home. Born in Pickens, she was a daughter of the late Rufus and Margaret Aiken Galloway. She retired from Home Dimensions in Mauldin and was a member of the Piedmont Church of God of Prophecy. In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters, Margaret Keenan of Easley, Phyllis Davis of Piedmont, Barbara Springfield of Greenville; ten grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held May 23 at the Piedmont Church of God of Prophecy. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens. Parilee Rebecca Becky Elrod Queen, 61, of Pelzer, widow of Thomas Leroy Queen, died May 21, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Laurens County, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin Henry and Hattie Ann Dodgens Elrod. She was a homemaker and a member of Beech Springs Tabernacle. Surviving are sons, Thomas Lee Queen of the home, Terry Benjamin Queen, Benny Ray Queen, both of Pelzer, James Harper Queen of Pendleton; sister, Sara McCullock of Williamston; brothers, James Elrod of Williamston, Jay Elrod of Pelzer; and three grandchildren. Mary Patton Stone, 84, widow of the late Homer Elijah Stone, formerly of Williamston, died May 17, 2007 at Riverside Nursing Center. Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Daniel C. and Gurlie Thomason Patton. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Surviving are sons, Rev. Steve Stone of Pelzer and the Rev. Dr. Gary Stone of Guatemala; brothers, Daniel Patton of Pelzer and Ralph Patton of Williamston; sisters, Evelyn Knight and Willie Hammonds, both of Williamston, Sarah Bratcher of Honea Path, Doris Knight and Virginia Rogers, both of Belton; and four grandchildren. Funeral service was held May 20 at Cox Funeral Home. Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. |
