Willie James Parks, formerly of Greenville, died Apr. 14, 2007 in the Magnolia Manor Nursing Home in Greenville. A son of the late Toy and Lillie Parks, he was a former employee of the Bi-Lo Warehouse. He is survived by a daughter, Margaret Fuller of Greenville; four brothers, Harold Parks of Fountain Inn, Elbert Parks of Greenville, Al Parks of Piedmont and Frank Parks of Laurens; six sisters, Lu Ella Bennon of Taylors, Alberta Miller, Dorothy Parks and Rachel Miller of Greenville, Mildred Griffin of Simpsonville and Lillie Drummond of Duncan; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Apr. 21 at the Beasley Funeral Home Chapel, Fountain Inn. Burial followed in the New Durbin Baptist Church Cemetery.
Ronald Gerald Thompson, 65, husband of Sandra Dobson Thompson, of Easley, died April 21, 2007. Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late James Norwood and Dorothy Wilemon Thompson. He currently was associated with Home Depot and retired from Gerber Products. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Greenville. Surviving in addition to his wife are; two daughters, Michelle Thompson Trolinger of Piedmont and Tiffany Thompson Hammett of Duncan; a son, Kevin Thompson of Anderson; sister, Ann Lancaster of Simpsonville; brother, Jimmy W. Thompson of Greenville; and seven grandchildren. Funeral services were held Apr. 24 at 2 p.m. at The Mackey Mortuary.
Sam J. Knox, 93, of Richard M. Campbell Veterans Home died April 22, 2007. Born in Westminster he was the son of the late Will and Margie Martin Knox. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed by Birchmore Dairy Supply, Inc. He was a charter member of Overbrook Baptist Church. His wife, Helen Ruth Howard Knox, preceded him in death. Surviving are two sons, James William Knox of Greenville and John Sam Knox of Piedmont; four grandsons; and a brother, Ray Knox of Anderson. Graveside services were held Apr. 24 at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
Willie Clarence Hicks, 59, husband of Janie Leola Shaw Hicks, died Apr. 20, 2007 at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Edward Faith and Pearlee Shaw Hicks. He was retired from Cushman/Milliken Plant and was of the Baptist Faith. Surviving in addition to his wife are: stepmother, Judy Hicks of Belton; sons, Shane Hicks of Anderson, Travis Lee Hicks of Belton; daughters, Angela Christian of Belton, Leslie Lanee Hicks of Williamston; sisters, Becky Garrett of Anderson, Amy Murphy of Belton, Betty Korang of of Anderson, Deborah Haynie of Virginia Beach, VA; and eight grandchildren. Funeral services were held Apr. 23 at Cox Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Garden of Memories.
Tom Watson Craft, 90, of Anderson, husband of the late Gladys Browning Craft, died April 19, 2007 at NHC Health Care in Anderson. Born in Hart County, GA, he was a son of the late Arthur Craft and Blanche Robertson Craft. Following his retirement from textiles, he worked for Community Cash in Piedmont and was a lifetime farmer. He was a member of Guthrie Grove Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith. Surviving are a son, Jay Carlton Craft of Anderson; daughters, Annette Craft Stanley of Pendleton, Vallie Ree Durham of Piedmont and Nancy Clemones of Pendleton; brother, Waco Craft of Anderson; sisters, Inez Spears of Anderson and Helen Sullivan of Fair Play; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral service was held Apr. 22 at Guthrie Grove Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith in Pelzer. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Bobbie Jean Black Lancaster, 72, of Pelzer, widow of Charles Alton Lancaster, died Apr. 20, 2007 at her home. Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late James Isaac and Ellie Slaten Black. She was formerly secretary of the Hejaz Recreation Club in Mauldin and a member of Cedar Shoals Baptist Church. She was also co-owner of May-Lan Tree Plantation. Surviving are daughter, Sandra Mayberry of Pelzer; son, Charles Richard Lancaster of Greenville; brother, Heyward Black of Fountain Inn; sister, Luree Harvey of Gray Court. Funeral services were held Apr. 22 at Cedar Shoals Baptist Church. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens. Randall Paige McCoy, 35, of Charleston, formerly of Piedmont, died April 21, 2007. Born in Robeson County, NC, he was the son of Pink McCoy of Piedmont and the late Evelyn Finley McCoy. He was employed with the St. Johns Fire Department, was a member of West Gantt Baptist Church and was a United States Navy Veteran. Surviving, in addition to his father are two sons, Jared and Ryan McCoy, both of Greenville; a sister, Melinda Williams of Easley; and a brother, Michael McCoy of Fountain Inn. Funeral services will be held April 26 at noon at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown Chapel. Burial will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
Gerald Henry Kerr, 70, died April 20, 2007 in Naples, FL. He was born in Central to the late Henry Walla Kerr and the late Myrtle Lipscomb Kerr. Surviving are his wife, Barbara Clements Kerr; son, David Gerald Kerr of Atlanta, GA, and son, Robert Gregory Kerr of Minneapolis, MN; sisters, Rowena Kerr Reynolds of Fair Play and Elaine Kerr Elrod of Williamston; brothers, Larry Kerr of Williamston and Dwain Kerr of Dalzell. Funeral services were held Apr. 24 at North Naples Baptist Church in Naples, FL. Interment followed at Crestwood Cemetery in Gadsden, AL. A memorial service will be conducted later this summer at Choestoe Baptist Church in Blairsville, GA. Memorials may be made to the North Naples Baptist Church Building Fund.
Martha Mae Terry Evatt, 73, of Piedmont, widow of Alton Curtis Evatt, died April 23, 2007 at her home. Born in Greer, she was a daughter of the late John Marcus and Lillie Lee Howard Terry. She was retired from J. P. Stevens. Surviving are daughters, Frieda Gilbert of Piedmont, Connie Keith of Dacusville; sons, Freddie Evatt, Brian Evatt, both of Greenville, Tim Evatt of Piedmont; brothers, Marion Terry of Spartanburg, Loyce Terry of Odessa, TX; sister, Sarah Smalley of Hartsville; 14 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Apr. 26 at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
December 23, 1925-April 23, 2007 PELZER - James Donald LaBoone, 81, husband of Carolyn Lucille Chapman LaBoone, of 190 Joe Black Road, died Monday, April 23, 2007 at Cannon Memorial Hospital. Born on December 23, 1925 in the Brushy Creek area of Anderson County, he was a son of the late James Oliver and Selma Gambrell LaBoone. He attended Airy Springs School in Easley and was formerly employed by Belk-Simpson, then Sullivan Hardware, which sold out to William M. Bird and Company until his retirement. Following his retirement, he was co-owner of Carpet Distributors in Easley. Mr. LaBoone was a member of West Pelzer Baptist Church, formerly served as Director of the Palmetto Baptist Association Brotherhood, and a former member of the Sertoma Club. In addition to his wife of over 56 years, he is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Danny C. and Beverly Magness LaBoone of Easley, Robert L. Bobby and Susan Grover LaBoone of Pelzer; brother Joe Billy LaBoone of Simpsonville; sisters, Betty Jean L. Barnes, Winona Raines Black, both of Easley; sister-in-law, June T. Chapman of Greenville; and grandchildren, Carlye, Bailey, Jena, and Coulter LaBoone, and Ben and Brian Wood. He was predeceased by a brother, Jones West LaBoone; and brother-in-law, James L. Chapman. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer, with the Rev. Randall Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville. The family is at the home and will receive friends 6-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.
