Justin Billy Compton, 23, of Belton, died April 15, 2007. Born in Greenville County, he was a son of Brenda Kaye Bell Compton Finley and Steven Brent Compton. Surviving are his mother of the home; father of Walhalla; brothers, Jeremy Brent Compton of Belton, James Bennie Compton of the home; grandmothers, Sallie Evans of Belton and Ruth Ann Compton of Walhalla. Funeral services were held Apr. 17 at Gray Mortuary Chapel. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
Charles Olin Smith, 86, husband of Alva Anderson Smith, of Anderson, died Apr. 14, 2007 at the Hospice House. Born in Anderson, he was a son of the late G. Lee Smith and Bertha Lange Smith. Prior to being self-employed, he worked for Gillespie Construction. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Alva Anderson Smith of the home; daughters, Vickie Cothran and Deborah Smith, both of Anderson; two grandchildren; and a sister, Martha Drake of Williamston. Funeral services were held Apr. 16 at The McDougald Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 1809 N. Willeane Garrett Emery, 90, formerly of Piedmont and widow of Clarence John Emery, died April 15, 2007 at Summit Place. Born in Piedmont, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Addie Vaden Garrett. She was a homemaker and a member of Guthrie Grove Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith. Surviving are sons, Carroll Eugene Emery of Anderson, Douglas K. Emery of Summerville; daughter, Nell E. Hiott of Greer; sister, Betty Garrett Middleton of Williamston; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held Apr. 17 at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mary Geraldine Ashmore, 63, of Piedmont, died April 15, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Lavonia, GA, she was the daughter of the late Frank Floyd Busby and the late Dolly May Busby. She was a member of Antioch Christian Church. Surviving are her husband, Wayne Ashmore; son, Randy W. Ashmore of Piedmont; daughter, Marie Ashmore Collier; brother, William Busby of Easley; and six grandchildren. Funeral service was held Apr. 18 at Cannon Funeral Home, Jones Chapel, Simpsonville. Salvadore Anthony Piazza, Jr., 61, husband of Peggy Beasley Piazza, died Apr. 13, 2007 at his home. Born in Fayette, MS, he was a son of Freda Brown Piazza of Rodney, MS and the late Salvadore Anthony Piazza. He served in the U.S. Navy Reserves and was a self-employed specialty contractor. Surviving in addition to his wife are, two daughters, Emily Piazza and Jessica Piazza, both of Micanopy, FL; stepson, Ronald Taylor of Greenville; two granddaughters; four sisters, Vincentine Williams of Spanish Fort, AL, Veronica Yockey of Greenville, Patricia Murphy of Natchez, MS and Camella Richardson of Rodney, MS; and one brother, Michael Piazza of Rodney, MS. Visitation will be held at 11 a.m. April 19 at Piedmont United Methodist Church. Memorial service will follow at noon. Memorials may be made to Piedmont United Methodist Church.
Ruth Wyatt Wade, 81, of Liberty, died April 10, 2007 at Palmetto Health Baptist. Born in Easley, she was the widow of Alvin Wilson Wade and a daughter of the late William and Annie Mae Crane Wyatt. She retired from Byars Insurance Agency, and was a member of First Baptist Church in Liberty. Surviving are three daughters, Sheryl Evatt, Donna Gillespie and Debbie Moore, all of Liberty; sister, Audrey Wyatt of the home; two brothers, Frank Wyatt of Piedmont and Joe Wyatt of the home; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Apr. 13 in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial followed in Westview Cemetery.
Charles Wakefield White, 83, widower of Barbara Zoe White, died April 11, 2007 at Brighton Gardens. Born in Dallas, TX, he was the son of the late Charles Ashley and Bernice Harper White. He retired from Belk Simpson in Greenville and was of the Baptist faith. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II. Surviving are three sons, Daniel Terrance White of Brookings, OR, Mark Ashley White of Piedmont and Charles Scott White of Greenville; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to The Marine Corps League, Detachment 1105, 1155 Tall Oaks Circle, Piedmont, SC 29673. Funeral services and burial will be held in New Smyrna Beach, FL at a later date.
March 7, 1951 - April 13, 2007 PIEDMONT - Robert Stephen Steve Young, 56, of 107 Ross Street, husband of Nancy Marie Leopard Young, died Friday, April 13, 2007 at Hospice of the Upstate. Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of Mary Frances Pack Young of Pelzer and the late Walter Harrison Dub Young, Jr. He was owner and operator of Steve Young Construction and a member of Guthrie Grove Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith. In addition to his wife of the home and his mother of Pelzer, he is survived by daughters, Leslie Ann Young of Piedmont, Lindsey Michelle Young Martin and her husband Jon of Anderson; sister, Sheila G. Hiles and her husband Gerald of Easley; brother, Walter Manning Young of Pelzer; and grandchildren, Kylie, Chloe, Lillie, and Olivia. Memorial services were held at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Guthrie Grove Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith with Pastor Mike Montgomery and Pastor Wally Winner officiating. The family received friends 2:30-3:30 pm Monday at the church prior to the service. Lois Mitchell Clement, 89, resident of Martha Franks Retirement Center, widow of Roy W. Clement, died April 12, 2007 at Laurens County Hospital. Born in Laurens County, she was a daughter of the late James Franklin Mitchell and Hallie Culbertson Mitchell. She was a member of Azalea Baptist Church of St. Petersburg, and was retired from Woolco. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Weldon M. Jordan of Pelzer and Helen M. Riddle of Ware Shoals. Funeral services were held Apr. 14 at Poplar Springs Baptist Church. Burial followed in Eastview Cemetery, Honea Path. Mary Anna Slaten Kinard, 82, widow of Joseph Guyton Kinard, of Pelzer, died April 12, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Raymond R. and Hettie Davis Slaten. She was retired from Gilliams Provision Company and a member of Sandy Springs Baptist Church. Surviving are daughters, Nancy Kinard Davis of Pelzer, Donna Kinard Dunan of Liberty, Jane Kinard Seymore of Powdersville, Tammy Kinard Tester of Pelzer; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Apr. 15 at Sandy Springs Baptist Church. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens. Vicki Alesha Dickerson, 17, of Piedmont, died April 11, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of James Theodore Dickerson, Jr. and Elizabeth Ann Herring Revis. She was a Baptist. In addition to her parents, she is survived by fianceé, Randy Wayne Hartsell and daughter, Kimberly Ann Hartsell of the home; brother, Ryan Dwayne Dickerson of the home; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William M. Griffith of Pelzer, James R. Knight of Piedmont, and Mr. and Mrs. James T. Dickerson, Sr. of Easley. Funeral services were held Apr. 15 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
Bessie Lee Beck Wyatt, 89, of the Piercetown Community, widow of the late Bruce F. Wyatt, Sr., died April 15, 2007 at Hospice of the Upstate. Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Patrick Spencer and Bessie Smith Stegall. She retired from Williamston Primary School in food service. She also worked at Williamston First Baptist Church Day Care preparing lunches. She was a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Easley. Surviving are daughters, Pat Murphy of Williamston, Linda Roache of Williamston, Betty Davenport of Gastonia, NC; sisters, Ruby Couch of Williamston, Effie Wilson of Anderson; ten grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Apr. 16 at Gray Mortuary Chapel in Pelzer. Burial followed in Mount Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery.
