JULIUS ALLEN McJUNKIN, I

Julius Allen McJunkin I, 58, of Pelzer, died Feb. 27, 2007 at his home.

Born in Central, he was the son of the late James A. and Effie Moore McJunkin. He was a crane operator with Edgecombe Metals.

Surviving are two daughters, Melissa Carter of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Licine Wilson of Pelzer; a son, Julius Allen II of Spindale, NC; two sisters, Louise Pilgrim of Central and Mary Christopher of Pelzer; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Mar. 2 in the Westville Funeral Home Chapel.

MARTIN ‘POPPY’ BOOKSIN

PELZER, SC - Martin Booksin, 73, husband of Clara Locke Booksin, of 33 Lyman Street, died Saturday, February 24, 2007 at his home.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was a son of the late Jack and Pauline Booksin. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served in the Korean Conflict, retired from Montgomery Ward and managed the Dollar Store in downtown Greenville during the 1960s and 1970s.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Gale Labb of Williamston, Judith Booksin of Austin, TX, Tina Gilliland of Anderson; brother, Irvin Booksin of West Palm Beach, FL; grandchildren, Christy Moore, Rhonda Lollis, Cory Crane, Gregory Gilliland; and six great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his sister, Blanche Turoff.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Mar. 3 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens. Family members received friends at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer prior to the service.


MARY HELEN CHANDLER

Mary Helen Pearson Chandler, 95, of Pelzer, widow of Henry Wilton Chandler, died March 1, 2007 at her home.

Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Broadus and Annie Coker Pearson. She was a homemaker and a member of Washington Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Wylda Chandler of the home; sister, Sara Banks of Greenville; and brother, Gordon “Coot” Pearson of Pelzer.

Funeral services were held Mar. 3 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Private interment followed.

Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Washington Baptist Church, 208 Washington Church Road, Pelzer, SC 29669.


SARA WASHINGTON GREGORY

Sara Washington Gregory, 79, of Piedmont, died March 2, 2007 at Westside Living Center.

Born in Piedmont, she was a daughter of the late Andrew Butler and Inez Washington.

She retired from Pepsi Cola Bottling Company and was a member of First Baptist Church of Piedmont.

Surviving are her husband, John Harold Gregory, Sr.; a son, John H. Gregory, Jr., of Piedmont; two grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Graveside services were held Mar. 4 at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

WILLIAM ‘DUB’ EUSTACE SR.

William “Dub” Eustace Sr., 72, of Clinton, died March 1, 2007 in the Self Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Laurens County to the late Joseph and Lela Nix Eustace.

He was retired from Greenwood Mills, attended Calvary Baptist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara G. Eustace of the home; two sons, Daniel Eustace of Pelzer, William “Bubba” Eustace of Clinton; three daughters, Beverly Alexander, Rita Vo and Donna Le, all of Clinton; three brothers, Harold Eustace and Carroll Eustace, both of Clinton, Thomas “Bit” Eustace of Hendersonville, NC; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Mar. 4 in the Gray Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Rosemont Cemetery.


VERA MAE JOHNSON

Vera Mae Johnson, 79, of Belton, died March 1, 2007 at AnMed Health Center. 

Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Leroy and Jessie McGee Campbell. She was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church.

She is survived by sons, Robert Lee Campbell of Belton, Rev. Willie James Johnson and Lee Andrew Johnson, both of Anderson; sisters, Lether Wardlaw of Belton, Josephine Blanding of Williamston, Rosa L. Coleman of Pendleton and Annie Lois Long of Anderson; brothers, J.C. Campbell of Salisbury, NC and John Henry Campbell of Anderson; 15 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Mar. 5 at Evergreen Baptist Church. Visitation was held Mar. 4 at the Unity Mortuary. Interment followed in the church cemetery.


CAL LOLLIS

Robert Calvin Lollis, 79, formerly of Honea Path, widower of Tommie Ruth Burroughs Lollis, died Mar. 3, 2007 at the Hospice House in Anderson.

Born in Honea Path, he was a son of the late Willie Carbit and Vinnie Estell Crawford Lollis. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church. He was retired from Chiquola Mfg. Co. and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Surviving are three sons, Mitch Lollis of Anderson, Steve Wilson of Honea Path and Dennis Wilson of Hodges; two daughters, JoAnn Ashley of Pelzer and Linda Pollard of Townsend, TN; two brothers, Luther Carbit Lollis and Riley Lollis, both of Honea Path; one sister, Ruby Lee Hannah of Honea Path; 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Mar. 6 at Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Garden of Memories.


GRACE WILBANKS

Grace Beaty O’Neal Wilbanks, 72, of West Pelzer, died Mar. 4, 2007 at her home.

Born in Banks County, GA, she was a daughter of the late C.H. and Alma Kelley Beaty. She was a former home health care aide and a homemaker. She was a member of West Pelzer Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Charles O’Neal and Norman L. Wilbanks, Sr.

Surviving are sons, Larry Wilbanks, Sr. of Gulfport, MS, Norman Wilbanks, Jr. of Sandy Springs; daughters, Kathryn King of Alto, GA, Lea McCarson of West Pelzer; sisters, Beulah Head, Dorothy Poole, both of Cornelia, GA, Kathryn Farris of Tucson, AZ; Glenda Craven of Macon, GA; 22 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Mar. 6 at Yonah Memorial Gardens in Demorest, GA.


LELA R. KELLETT

Lela R. Kellett, 82, of Piedmont, died Mar. 4, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Furman and Etta Mae Vickery Reid.

She was a homemaker and a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband, C.P. “Pete” Kellett of the home; a daughter, Connie Spoon of Piedmont; two brothers, Roy Reid and David Reid, both of Greenville; two sisters, Lou King of Piedmont and Kathleen LaBoone of Greenville; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Mar. 7 at Bethesda United Methodist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

KATIE LOUISE LAWLESS

Katie Louise Lawless, 84, of Greenville, died Mar. 4, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late C.G. and Cleo Cason Lawless.

She was a member of White Plains Baptist Church.

Surviving are a sister, Joyce L. Smith of Piedmont; four brothers, Martin D. Lawless of Greenville, David F. Lawless of Piedmont, Charles T. Lawless of Piedmont and William L. Lawless of Piedmont.

Funeral services were held Mar. 7 at White Plains Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

JOHN NOWACKI

John Edward Nowacki, 39, of Belton, died Mar. 5, 2007 at Hospice House in Anderson.

Born in Germany, he was a son of Edward Nowacki and Mary Jean Byars. He was a member of Beulah Land Baptist Church.

Surviving are his father of Brentwood, CA and mother of the home; one brother, Bill Nowacki of Williamston; and one sister, Jeanie Sisk of Starr.

He was predeceased by his wife, Janice Nowacki.

Graveside services were held Mar. 7 at Garden of Memories.
